Yoga=Union

July blog Yoga meaning Total 360 yoga

Yoga means union in the most literal sense.  The connection between the mind and body is something that we all look to obtain. If this is our ultimate goal, let’s work toward that goal and not forget why we do yoga.   Stilling the mind is difficult, as the mind can get into overdrive.  It can be difficult to slow down or turn off the mind to get to a yoga practice where we can feel that connection.

Have you ever been able to send the sensation from your brain and follow it to another body part?  Sensation work is the ability to connect to your body. Sending the breathe and peace to a part of the body that is tense.

Acknowledging the distracting mind and returning to the breath is a productive way to calm the mind.  Calming the mind and breathing sensing are not feats that are not superhuman but an obtainable practice. Unionizing the mind to connect to the body is a function of helping to avoid disease.

The ability to recognize in the body where something is held, or there is tension.  Using the mind to find that experience and what brought the tension, then taking the two and using yoga to help work through the pain or issue.  This is the power of the mind-body connection.

Have you heard the stories of people who do not want to take medicine because of one reason or another for surgery? They took what was necessary to do the surgery and refused any other medications, rather than only using their minds to control the area where there was pain and breathe through it.  The ability to send breath to areas of the body that need relaxation, movement, and so on can be a tool for body sensing.

Start with the concepts of meditation, mindfulness, and pranayama to teach your body how to send the signals and learn to identify what is going on in your body through your unionization of yoga.

The power of yoga can help reduce anxiety, help you become more efficient, restore, repair, and relax your body in ways you never thought possible.  You have to be willing to put in the effort to learn. There will be moments where you think it is not work, but try different avenues like Yoga Nidra, Restorative, or Yin yoga classes.  Develop a meditation practice that works for you.  This unionization is not limited by anything except your mind.

Let’s find our union and work together.  Namaste
