The clouds across the sky
Every day the sky shines through. Some days, there are clouds that form and then disappear back into the sky. These are moments that remind us of our thoughts coming into practice and disappearing. This blog will discuss the clouds across the sky.
Have you ever been in class and the thoughts keep coming into view and distracting you from what you are trying to achieve? How do we lessen the interruptions? The idea here is not to eliminate them. Acknowledge when they come up, give them the attention, and let them float away. It’s harder and takes more energy to try to ignore something than to validate that it exists and move on. The impermanence of life is what we can rely on to know that nothing is permanent and everything will change.
Taking the moment to build the acknowledgement is a starting step to allow the thought disappear into the sky. Bringing yourself back to the moment is what can be difficult. Finding the breath and the center, work back toward when you found the moment and rebuild. To find the peace and stillness, we have to work through the clouds that come along. Some days it is easier, and they float away; other days it’s like a thunderstorm in the mind.
Even if we take the idea that we don’t focus on or live in the past or think about the future, our minds could still be going all over the place during the day. What should I be doing? Am I where I need to be for the day, and so on? One of the key ways to start the slow-down process is to focus on your breath, bringing in and filling the lungs, and letting it all go. Breathing is one of the mechanisms we can use on a voluntary basis to help bring in the calm.
The tapestry of the mind is controlled by our perception of what is, will be, or has gone on. When we bring in the ideas of being non-judgmental with ourselves, being present, impermenance we begin to see the emptiness of the blue sky. We can see that even if there is an interruption.
Allow your sky to have clouds that disperse as you settle. Allow your sky to be empty, yet full of possibilities. The colors are defined by what we do and how we do it within our practice. Be with your sky as you continue on your journey. Meditation, Mindfulness, and settling the mind help clarify your sky. Namaste.
