We spend too much time focusing on too many things at once, and we miss the moment. Life has so many distractions, screens, and noises. In reality, if we find the moment we can find peace, bringing relaxation and calmness. This is the January 2025 yoga blog: Peace be in the moment.
Have you ever walked the same area day after day, month after month, one day you see a row of flowers? You finally stop and look at the flowers, and smell them. How long have they been there? Where did they come from? The colors are vibrant, the odor brings you back to childhood, and you realize this is what the moment is.
Let go of the past, as it will only slow you down and distract you from the beauty of today. The moment brings the joy and stillness that we are constantly seeking. The hard part is getting to the moment. Take a moment, even while reading this, to breathe in and then breathe out slowly. Feel the breath filling the lungs, moving through the throat and out the mouth. Close your eyes and continue to breathe. After a few minutes, open your eyes and look around and see things, maybe for the first time. What color is the counter, what do you smell, how do you feel?
The world spins so fast. We work in jobs that constantly strive for our attention. We are asked to work 10-12 hour days, pick up the kids, go to the store, answer emails, and so on. Take a few minutes each day to find a moment to be in the moment. You’ll find that these moments you invest help you in the rest of your life. You become more focused, get more done in less time, your blood pressure lowers and you feel relaxed more.
We are only given so many moments in life. Take those you have in them instead of letting them pass you by. Yoga allows you to be still and focus on the pose, the breath, the serenity, and calmness. As you fold down, you exhale connecting to the body, and bring in as you come up from a fold. As thoughts come in, acknowledge they exist and come back to the breath as a focal point. Let 2025 be your guide for peace at the moment.
