This is the 2024 blog for Total 360 yoga. In this blog we are going to discuss working through material during a class. We know that yoga often helps us calm, destress, breathe and find balance. Yoga can also help us work through material or tough decisions. The goal with this type of movement is to build into your practice as you normally would. Find your breathe find your center and then we do something we normally push away. We allow the thought around the material to enter. This may cause a dis regulation but bringing it in allows us to be with it. Once the material is there we can use several different options. We do you feel the material in the body? Where is the holding. In that area send the breathe to the area to help support it. Take the mindfulness tools of you are enough, you whole and complete and release self doubt.
Once this occurs look back at the material what remains. Allow yourself to narrow the issue down. If the issue or material continues use the methods of yoga nidra in the comparison of opposites. What would it look like the opposite of the feeling or material. Maybe it’s a lack of feeling or picturing what it might look like on both sides of the issue and moving back and forth within this. This all can occur while moving through poses. The movement through poses allows the body to release. This movement can help release the mind. Move into each pose and then continue where you were with your thought or assessment. As you move to the next pose how does it feel different, how does feel with regard to the material. Your building confidence in your body to now what you need and how to find it.
This practice may take time as you need to multi-task at times which seems contradictory to the normal practice. Taking the time acknowledge the thought, or allows you move through it and come to a place where you have clarity. Use the final closing of a class to settle any final thoughts on the issue. This time is about you and how you can work through your material. When you finish with the practice maybe you write in a journal about the experience and how you arrived at where you are. This helps later when you want to use the experience to further your development.
Build time in during the season to see yourself and have compassion. Namaste.
