June 2025

Giving knowledge

Yoga is a way of helping our bodies find what we are looking for.  On the path, we realize we can help others. This is the June 2025 yoga blog and will discuss giving knowledge.

Over 20 years ago, I began my journey in with a small morning exercise known as Sun Salutation.  I never took a yoga class when I started, but was introduced to yoga through my karate class.  One of the instructors loved the Sun Salutation as a warm-up.  I began to work through the exercise and developed an appreciation for it.  I taught Sun Salutation as a warm-up  in my martial arts studio.  I wanted to display the benefits of this exercise.

I became intrigued with yoga and what it could do for me and my students. I worked through learning Vinyasa flows, Yoga Nidra, Restorative yoga, and many more.  Each aspect had something different that I could understand.  With each certification, I learned everyone should have an opportunity to learn yoga.

There are many ways to give knowledge.  One of which is to get certified to teach yoga.  There are in-person classes, online classes, and hybrid classes. Giving knowledge to the world is an incredible gift.  Teaching might be intimidating, but in the end, we are helping people on their path.

Yoga can be taught in a one-on-one setting or group setting.  We can seek to address one situation at a time (Somatic healing) or in an open format with whatever comes up.   The investment in yoga training not only deepens your practice, it also allows you to see things differently.  I have often asked students in my martial arts class to come up and teach a section of the class.   Teaching allows students to pass on knowledge.  Looking for cues, body language, and being able to talk people through an activity.

Yoga is a journey that can take you on many different paths. Yoga has many forms like Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin yoga, Yoga Nidra, hot yoga, Somatic healing, Pranayama, Mindfulness, Meditation, Ayurveda, and Yoga Therapy.  Each style or type has its differences and helps people in different ways.  Listen to yourself, is something drawing you?  Find a local instructor and discuss the principles, ideas, and how they teach.  No two instructors are the same, a different perspective and training allows you the opportunity to learn.

Become the yogi you want to be.  See if teaching is a way for you. Namaste.
