Total 360

Total 360 karate October 2025 blog

Total 360

Total 360 was the brainchild of Michael Rodgers.  A Master Personal Trainer with NFPT, RYT 500, mixed martial artist, and a 2nd degree Dan.  Michael Rodgers was working in law enforcement, and there was no system in place to allow the officers to test their skills or build their fitness.  It was the old school way of going to the gym and running on a treadmill.  Total 360 formed to help give officers a way to uniquely work on their fitness and test their hand-to-hand tactics.  As is the case in Total 360 Karate, Fitness was the backbone of Total 360.  Using body weight, movement, stretching, and moves that support mixed martial arts.   We originally had 6 people in our small studio.

Total 360 took it beyond fitness, to mental wellness, yoga, and proper nutrition to form Total 360. The first logo came out in 2005. Programs like plyometrics, abdominal classes, Tactix, and police defensive tactics were all included.

2011

In 2011, Total 360 had an overall completion while working at LifeTime Fitness. Total 360 began to grow in many facets.  The internal organization of programs, the design of logos, and the mission and values began to take shape.  In 2017, Total 360 came online with videos, photographs, and program design.  The outdoor classes were born.

Pandemic

As COVID hit, Total 360 began to add a very important element to the structure of the business. Total 360 added a yoga element to help the mind, body, and soul become more balanced.  The recognition of the need to learn how to meditate and be mindful was an aspect that has become the core of the studio.

Location birth

Total 360 Karate and Total 360 Yoga sprang up with the help of Prescott Valley.  The studio opened its doors in June of 2020.  The Karate studio started first, and the Yoga followed a few years after.  Total 360 has a personal training section dedicated to using items that you might have at home.  These concepts were brought to Anytime Fitness.  By implementing a functional approach to exercise, using proper form, technique, and core strengthening, injuries were reduced, and my clientele exploded.  At one point, Michael Rodgers had over 75 clients to service.

Modernized

Total 360 is completely modernized, securing our videos, pictures, and social media.  Total 360 broke from Anytime Fitness and maintains itself as an independent business structured to help clients learn fitness, yoga, martial arts, while making smart choices for food.  The Total 360 Karate studio modernized, which was something that had not been done before, and broke from tradition.  Traditional karate studios would not film, set, or display the katas for the art.  As a historian and person who wants to preserve the art, I had over 100 videos of me learning the katas. I then decided to research and find the videos that were out there for Chito Ryu karate and put them all into a central YouTube location.  This has not only helped our studio, but other studios have come to see that online learning is a way that can assist in the actual teaching at the dojo.

Michael Rodgers continues to innovate the studio with new programs, techniques, and values that go beyond simply exercising.  Total 360 is committed to helping people reach their goals.  Total 360 turned 20 years old this year and continues to evolve.  Join us in one of our signature programs: Total 360 Karate, Total 360 Yoga, or PYB.
