Sensei's Corner
Sensei Michael Rodgers
Sensei Rodgers started karate training in 2005 under Sensei Carpenter of the Port City Karate Dojo in Savannah, Georgia. Sensei Rodgers was asked to lead the classes early on in his training and learned how to use different methods of teaching to reach students. Sensei Rodgers has an extensive background in fitness as a Master Certified Personal Training, Master Yoga instructor, designs Women’s self-defense classes and Mixed Martial arts classes.
Sensei Rodgers received his 2nd dan in 2025 after being confirmed by his Sensei. Sensei Carpenter told Sensei Rodgers he had gotten another student from white belt all the way through black belt. Sensei Rodgers took this task very seriously and did not settle.
Sensei Rodgers's training for karate uses functional training, cross-fit methodologies, yoga concepts, and other advanced training techniques. Sensei is often in his backyard designing exercises for the studio.
Sensei Rodgers handles the primary design for Total 360. Total 360 is not only the karate studio but includes all of the yoga, women’s self-defense, MMA designs, and group training. Sensei Rodgers continues to take advanced training in Yoga Athletes, benefits of sleep on training, high endurance training classes, and functional training.
Sensei Rodgers completed 22 years in law enforcement and is dedicated to the successful development of students building confidence, fitness, and learning the art of karate. Sensei Rodgers videos all of the katas, training videos, and short videos for the exams. While this is unconventional to many Eastern dojos, Sensei Rodgers believes strongly in preserving the historical aspects of Chito Ryu karate while passing it on for the future.
Sensei Rodgers is looking forward to taking several Shodans to Kentucky to meet with the US Chito Ryu Federation to further the application process to become affiliated. Sensei Rodgers has and will continue to employ the values of Chito Ryu karate in Total 360.
Sensei Rodgers has expanded Total 360 into an entity within Prescott Valley that people have come to know. Total 360 is now a part of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and has students actively participating in tournaments. Sensei Rodgers wants students to not only learn karate but apply it to school, other sports, and life. Total 360 is not just about punching and kicking it is a way of life.
Sensei Rodgers modernized Total 360 from 2021-2022 when many other dojos closed and never reopened. Sensei Rodgers found a method of training through video tools, meetings, and proper spacing to cement Total 360’s future going forward. As Total 360 grows Sensei Rodgers expects to have several new instructors and a redesigned website.
