Total 360 Curriculum 26/27
This is the Total 360 Curriculum for 2026/2027. The style is based off of Chito Ryu Karate. The principles employed are designed to increase fitness, respect, honor, values, traditions and forward the legacy of Chito Ryu Karate into the future.
Complete ranks
Non uniforms
Total 360 Karate is a very traditional form of Karate based on Chito Ryu Karate. This style was created by Dr. Chitose of the Okinawan islands and was brought to Japan as the main form of karate in the 1930’s. The formalized style was taught to American military personnel during WWII and was brought back to the US with Hanshi Dometrich. The US federation of Chito Ryu karate is in Kentucky. This style is recognized as very formal and rare in the US due to standards and testing backgrounds. Once thought of as the most common karate in America, it has slowly faded, giving way to American Karate. Sensei Rodgers, a historical appreciator of the art, brought it back into view in 2005 in Savannah, Georgia, and has continued its legacy.
1st day of class: no expectation
Earn white belt and uniform:
Where does karate come from?
What does karate mean?
What is our style of karate?
Tournament walk-out- assisted
Testing as soon as they are ready
Testing fee $40- uniform, certificate, testing fee, and belt- (option of used uniforms or recycle donation based).
All belt testing fees are refundable if the student does not pass; this applies to all belt tests. Payment can be cash, check, or Zelle to the Sensei administering the test. If you choose to buy your student’s uniform independently, it must be a solid black uniform with a white belt that can be double-wrapped.
Students should be learning how to bow when they come into class, Bow when they come onto the floor, learn to walk behind the lines , pay attention to the instructions given, Work hard
Learn the dojo basics
Students control how fast they move up to green. A student can reasonably obtain a green belt within a year; after that, the ranks are one year at a time.
Students learn to form a base for fitness, respect, honor, traditions, and community in this rank. Our students have moved on to high school sports and have been very successful.

Teach an entire class

Black belt checklist:
Daily class check: each class brown belts need to point north, determine where the first aide kicks are, and give the address of our class.
Study the Chito Ryu Japanese terminology provided on Google Classroom for the 1st dan black belt.
Learn the Showa in Japanese, and in each class, one of the brown belts will give it, and then they will pick a student to do the English Showa.
Belt tests- Students will come to the brown belts before requesting a belt test. This includes new students. Brown belts need to make sure students are ready.
Explain Rohai sho and Rohai Dai. Sensei will only demonstrate the katas to you, but will not explain the katas. You may use any method to get the information necessary to explain.
Complete a mock scenario-
Sensei will create a scenario for you. You will not only have to defend yourself, but you will need to mock call 911, explain what happened and defend your actions.
Contribute something meaningful to the studio, examples include writing down all the katas with explanations, recording all the katas, drawing basic movements, etc.
Sponsor a student: Each black belt applicant must have a blue belt student who must pass a brown belt test before you can take your black belt test. You must pick a student who you believe can pass the test, and work with them to get them to the point of passing a brown belt test.
Design and execute an entire class. Sensei will take the class to evaluate. You will need to validate your decisions and submit the lesson plan before the execution. Sensei will provide you with the lesson plan format.
Required reading: For each of these books, you will need to explain 5 concepts and why Sensei picked it as a black belt reading material
1. Book of Five rings
2. Karate-do: My Way of Life
3. Tao of Jeet Kune Do
4. Anatomy of martial arts
5. The Way to Black Belt: A comprehensive guide to rapid (Sensei will be reading as well)
6. Two books of your choice.
These explanations can be given to Sensei orally, in writing, or in any other manner that demonstrates the requirements.
Build a page for the website:
Oral presentation - each of these discussions will be 15 minutes each
What is mindfulness?
Discuss methods of correction
Discuss open-mindedness
Using the Ying and Yang, how does yoga or yoga principles help karate?
You must pick a time that works for you and Sensei. You may pick the location, coffee house, studio, etc.
The checklist must be completed before the written test. Once any black belt applicant has finished the checklist, Sensei will open up the written test. Once any black belt applicant has submitted and passed the written portion of the black belt test, Sensei will open up the practical portion of the test and then set a date.
