Yoga is more than movement; it offers real potential to address high blood pressure. This blog digs into how specific aspects of yoga can support healthier blood pressure levels. Stress contributes to high blood pressure by keeping the body in a heightened state. Yoga can support natural relaxation, help lower blood pressure, and decrease risks like stroke and heart attacks. While Western medicine can offer medication for blood pressure, yoga provides another tool, a homeopathic remedy for the issue.
Asana
Asanas of yoga help move the body, shift the flow of blood, and get blood to places where it might not be going normally. When I say this, it’s because our society has become very sedentary. Other aspects of yoga help control pressure through changing mental focus.
Prananayama
Breathe work in Yoga has a monumental effect on the body. Slowing the breath down helps reduce anxiety and stress. Simple exercises like deep breathing allow the body to come to a natural balance state. Bees' breathing allows for the vibration of the Vegas nerve. In a study conducted by the author conducting bees breathe stimulates the Vagus nerve where medically proven this helps blood pressure and heart rate. This stimulation allows the relaxation of the nerve. The relaxation helps blood pressure come down due to being relaxed.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra allows for the yogic sleep where the body can rest, focus on breath, imagery, and the comparison of opposites. This comparison of opposites allows for the release of holding onto negative thoughts. Negative thoughts stimulate anxiety and stress. Yoga Nidra has repeatedly been shown to lower pulse and respiration through the relaxation state.
Restorative and Yin Yoga
Restorative and Yin yoga help the body rest, restore, and stretch the connective tissue in the body, which helps with blood flow and stress. These modalities add time and stretching to help the body relax.
Meditaiton
Meditation is one of the most commonly known ways to help the body reduce anxiety and stress. There are many methods to it, including walking meditation or guided meditation. Meditation allows for the quick release of stress and anxiety. Yoga can be used as a tool to help reduce blood pressure, given the multiple options within yoga. Take the time to explore yoga for your health.
