Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is the yoga of sleep. There is harmony in the body that requires not only asana but recovery as well. Yoga Nidra focuses on breathing, mindfulness, a comparison of opposites, sensory work, and intentions.

In this Yoga Nidra, we start with a sensory-building exercise, they vary but attempt to get the client to focus on something. The goal is to bring the client to the present moment. If we remain in the present moment, we get more out of practice and the things we do. Energy is divided in consumed in areas where we did not intend to be.

Our yoga Nidra classes set an intention for the class, in the beginning. An intention is a small statement you can say to yourself three times. This intention is reviewed at the end, and you have the opportunity to reflect.

The class moves to concentrate on breathing work. The breath moves elements around the body both to support us and repair. The breathwork portion will vary depending on the class length. The goal of breathwork is to help clients learn to find their breath and apply it.

An inner resource is developed to help find a place that is yours. Find a place that soothes, relaxes, and brings you joy or happiness. You can work with and change it as you wish. In the inner resource, we invite you to feel the senses when you are there. What emotions do you have?

The class moves to a sensor and auditory movement around the body. I call various parts of the body and ask you to move your attention to the body part but try not to move the body part. As we discussed in the previous classes, I use Trauma informed language to guide you through this process.

As we move out of the body, we move into a comparison of opposites. In a one-on-one Yoga Nidra, I will ask you pre-class, we will discuss some trigger images or trauma-related emotions to build to the class for you. The goal is to bring us back to neutrality and harmony. Yoga Nidra can be done in a group setting using generalized images.

As we finish this part of the class, I will guide clients back through breathing and sensory focus. The intention is reviewed as we wind down the class.

Distractions are a normal part of yoga, and as they come, acknowledge them and come back to focus.

To book a session go to Total360@rocketmail.com. The cost of a session is $50 for an average of 30 minutes, independent of any other class. Yoga Nidra is often added to the end of a yoga class as a short version.
